The Power of pH

The oxidation rate of iron and many other heavy metals is pH dependent. The time required to oxidize iron at various pH levels is shown in the table. The rate is based on oxygen saturation.

The relationship between chemical needed and pH levels is logarithmic, resulting in the use of just 1/10 of the original amount needed for each one point rise in pH. This also illustrates why retention pond size can be reduced!
